It’s hard to know where to begin praising Dr. Reena Gupta and happily I’m in no danger of overstating the case. The headline is that this was the best medical experience I’ve ever had, from the initial consultation and intake to the completely successful surgery, and right through to the completely productive post-op, follow-up, and therapy. Dr. Gupta is a very rare example of a doctor who is firing on all the cylinders all the time. The startling breadth of the anatomical knowledge, the incredible skill and talent of the surgery, and the thoughtfulness — the actual processing of the actual questions that I was actually asking. She has no rote answers, no rote phrases —for Dr. Gupta, every case is perfectly individual and every case requires a perfectly individual approach.
One of the most difficult things about being a performer is explaining yourself to a medical professional. I never had to explain to Dr. Gupta a thing — what an actor is, what his voice goes through, how I feel about it, why I’m scared, what I fear will be lost, what my voice means to me, that I have a relationship with my body that might be different from a civilian’s. Dr. Gupta was ahead of me on all of it. Perhaps her empathy is the greatest of her talents: my guess is the medicine was the one that followed its lead.
As I write this my very serious vocal issue, the issue that could have ended my career, is completely cured. I’m done; the whole thing is over. I never, in my wildest hopes, dared dream for this result. This medical experience exceeded my wildest expectations. It is not at all an exaggeration to say:
I still have my career because of the incredible medical care that Dr. Reena Gupta provided me.”

I’m SUCH a fan of Dr. Gupta!! First, above all, I appreciate that she understands the importance of NOT scoping people through the nose. Since the beginning of my career, I was terrified of seeing an ENT for fear that they would insist on sending a scope through my nasal passages to see my vocal chords. Upon speaking with good friends, they assured me that Dr. Gupta doesn’t do that and she still gets amazing results. So I made my appointment. Speaking with her is like speaking with a dear friend who also happens to be a colleague. Not only did she understand “singer speak” (if I’m not mistaken, she’s a singer too!), she’s also incredible at diagnosing problems and finding solutions that won’t break the bank and/or can be covered by insurance. Dr. Gupta will ALWAYS be my go to ENT and my first recommendation to people seeking one. Thank you Dr. Gupta!!!!

Going to Drs Gupta and Zandifar is a reminder of what going to the doctor is like on that favorite tv show or book you consume—personalized attention by people who care. They understand that my voice is how I’m paying to be in their office—my concerns and my questions (no matter how elementary I may feel they are) are answered without judgement. I have never felt like a number when I go there…never rushed, and most important, never given extra treatments just so I end up paying more. Their goal is NOT to see me other than for annual checkups. And that’s telling in an industry where it’s easy to always find something wrong so a patient falls into a never-ending turnstile of illness and medication. They were wonderful when they were part of another practice—but together where they are navigating the ship, I’m so excited to see how, as the Center For Vocal Health, they will be able to steer Voice Artists towards a new era of vocal health and strength.

My experience with Dr. Gupta was unlike anything I could have imagined. Being a singer/songwriter at the very final stages of finishing up my EP and figuring out release dates, this surgery could not have come at a worse time. My first day at the office meeting Dr Gupta, I was overcome with relief to see how comforting and reassuring she was. I felt safe and knew that my vocal chords were in great hands. After visiting many ENT’s prior to Dr Gupta, this was the first time I had ever felt at ease, and knew that everything was going to be okay. Dr Gupta worked with me, and allowed me to finish up the final touches on my EP before stepping into surgery. She helped make the experience less stressful, and allowed me to continue on my musical journey, while simultaneously preparing for surgery. Her comforting energy, her reassuring words, and her infectious smile made a scary situation seem nothing but a breeze.
The day of surgery I sat in the waiting room nervous as I waited for the nurses to bring me back. After changing into my gown and getting comfy in the hospital bed, it was apparent I was nervous. But in came Dr Gupta with her high energy and positive attitude and I knew right away, I had NOTHING to worry about. This surgery is something that I had been dreading for three years, and I am thankful that I was able to overcome it with Dr Gupta by my side. My family and I both will be forever grateful for her. She has been a true light in my journey thus far and I hope to keep her apart of it for the times to come. Thank you Dr Gupta.

Dr. Gupta is a miracle worker. I am a professional singer and I was devastated when I had cysts on my vocal chords. Dr. Gupta performed surgery 5 months ago and honestly my voice is coming back so nicely. It was a really long journey for me. From having issues and trying to fix it with rest (I was silent for 3 months!) to going to different ENTs and contemplating surgery, and ultimately thinking my career was possibly over.
I did everything I could in order to prevent having surgery. After surgery I also did a lot of work with my vocal coach, Kate Conklin, in order to teach myself how to speak and sing without the danger of fatiguing my vocal chords. This is something I’m still working on and it has been tedious. I’m lucky to have the ability to devote almost all my time to this now, but I’m back to recording and doing concerts and my voice is sounding great.
I feel so grateful to Dr. Gupta. I don’t think I would be where I am without her. My surgery was complex and I would never have trusted another doctor to have performed it. Not only is Dr. Gupta so sweet, but she really understands the voice and how to fix it while making me feel at ease. I am so happy to have her on my team from now on. It is amazing that my voice is back, and I feel so comforted knowing that if anything comes up I can always go to her. Thank you Dr. Gupta!”
